If you were to Google “tips for job-hunting” or “tips for resumes” or “tips for interviewing” most of the advice is outdated. It was written during Normal Times in the job market and we are currently in Hunger Games mode. Some jobs receive hundreds, if not thousands, of applicants. The ways companies process applications is widely varied, and any advice to do things a certain way (“keep your resume to only one page!!”) is hit or miss
We also have to consider ourselves, as humans, in the process. I also recognize that because the job market is so brutal, sometimes you have to take whatever comes our way — especially if you’re unemployed. That is reality, and it’s ok to take a job that isn’t ideal and keep looking. Give yourself some space to settle and feel more secure, and then keep looking when you have the mental bandwidth to do so. For everything I write below, assume it comes with the caveat, “Do whatever you have to do to get the financial stability you need.” The advice I’m sharing here focuses on you, not the process or how to win a role. How you can create your own criteria for considering / accepting a job — and how to protect yourself during the process.
